Karen Mulhallen‘s areas of expertise include Canadian literature and the literature of the eighteenth century, especially in English, as well as printing and private presses.

She has taught courses in English literature which range from the early Middle Ages to current fiction and poetry, as well as seminars, lectures and tutorials in the range of English literature, and in broad-based theme courses and interdisciplinary core courses where literature, philosophy and art history converse. Many of the courses she has taught include literature in translation, and this has been especially true in the various courses she has given in literature and society in the long eighteenth century. She is also experienced in teaching writing, and has given many Creative Writing Workshops, courses in Business Communications, and courses in writing, grammar and rhetoric.

As a poet, she has participated in the Poets in the Schools program, funded through the Ontario Arts Council. As a scholar, she has given papers at many academic conferences (see full curriculum vitae for these presentations). As an editor, she has lectured both in Canada and abroad on the state of publishing and letters in Canada.
